Dental veneers are not only used to fix cavities or broken teeth, but can also improve your smile.
What is a veneer?
Porcelain veneers are very thin, custom-made porcelain covers, which are placed over your existing teeth to improve their appearance. In order to fix a single damaged or misaligned tooth, one single veneer can be placed. Many veneers can also be used to create a complete smile makeover.
Veneers can completely help reshape your teeth and complete smile. Often veneers are recommended as an alternative to dental crowns. As with most dental restorations, veneers may not be permanent and may someday need to be replaced. However, veneers are very durable, and will last most patients many years.
Our dentists may recommend dental veneers to patients affected by crooked teeth, misshapen teeth, severely discoloured or stained teeth or even to help repair worn or chipped teeth.
What can I expect?
Veneers generally require two appointments to complete the process. A mold or impression of the teeth is taken and a shade (color) will then be chosen by you and your dentist.
Your dentist will prepare the teeth by lightly buffing and shaping the surface to make room for the thickness of the veneer. Most often, little or no anesthesia is required during the procedure.
On the second visit the teeth will be cleansed with a special liquid to achieve a durable bond. Bonding cement is then placed between the tooth and veneer and a special light is used to harden and set the bond.
